**Security Alert**

       March 30, 2026:

Romance scams are on the rise. If someone seems romantically interested in you, but asks for money, gift cards, or other forms of currency, something isn’t right. If you aren’t sure what to do, you can call us for help at 515-278-1994.

Additionally, never let anyone access your computer remotely. If someone tries to gain access to your computer, it’s likely a scammer.

Social engineering scams are on the rise. What does that mean though? It means hackers and scammers are getting smarter, so we need to think smart too. Carefully check emails for errors if they seem suspicious, think before clicking on ads or links, and verify the identity of anyone you don’t know personally.

Types of social engineering attacks include:

  • Phishing: When scammers send emails in attempt to make you take action
  • Vishing: When a legitimate phone number appears to be calling you but it has been spoofed
  • Smishing: Scammers sending text messages with links to try and get you to click them
  • In-person: When someone tries to gain access to an employee-only area
